WaterAid’s Mass Engagement Director, Nick Miller, recently took Time for Tea with the charity’s Legacy Management team as part of the ILM’s Love Your Legacy Manager campaign.

Legacy Manager, Rosalind Sherlock-Jones, says the event provided an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the vital work of the team and the work that they do.

When I spoke to Nick about the campaign, he was very happy to join us,” said Rosalind. “We have a positive relationship with our senior team, who recognise that legacy gifts are a valuable unrestricted income growth area.

“Taking time out allowed our team to stop and reflect, to feel proud of how we are helping fulfil people’s last wishes and the role we are playing in helping WaterAid achieve its mission. It also gave the senior leadership team time to pause and be reminded of the wonderful people who support our life-saving work through gifts in wills and the team’s expertise in managing a varied caseload.”

Nick, who already receives updates on the wider legacy market, also tuned in to the ILM’s recent Love Your Legacy Manager webinar, and says he appreciated being able to hear directly from the ILM and experts from Legacy Foresight and Farewill.

He said afterwards: “I found the ILM’s webinar really informative and it again underlined to me why legacy giving is such an important part of our work here at WaterAid. It has been for many years and will continue to be a wonderful way that supporters can create lasting change and help communities around the world transform their own lives.”

In terms of the ‘one big thing’ that the Love Your Legacy Manager campaign has helped with, Rosalind said: “It has been to give yourself the permission to pause and put the focus on showcasing the work of our Legacy Management Team.”

She concluded: “I am hoping that this will be a springboard for us to build on and share what we do with the wider organisation for a greater understanding.”
