Time for Tea across the miles

The ILM’s Time for Tea initiative has been stirring up lots of opportunities for discussion between legacy teams and senior charity leaders.

While it’s fabulous to sit down in person, we also recognise that with remote working, it’s not always possible for everyone to do this. Rebecca Billen, Senior Legacy Manager at Blood Cancer UK and an ILM Board member, explains the approach her team took for a meeting with CEO Helen Rowntree:

“It was difficult finding time in Helen’s diary, but we were lucky to be able to squeeze in a short catch-up to talk about what the team does and how the Senior Leadership Team could continue supporting us,” said Rebecca.

“While I was fortunate enough to be able to take tea with Helen face-to-face in the office, Claire Young, our Senior Legacy Officer, works remotely, so we arranged for her to join us via a Teams call. This worked very well and ensured that Claire was still very much part of the conversation.

“We are extremely lucky in that there is a lot of interest in legacies here at Blood Cancer UK, and we are now talking about having a session with the Trustees next year.”

Helen Rowntree, CEO, said: “Spending time with the legacy team is so important to me. They have huge expertise, and a deep connection to our Blood Cancer UK community. They play a vital role in making sure that we are able to continue to fund world class research to beat blood cancer.”

Claire Young, Senior Legacy Officer, added: “Being able to log on remotely meant I could be part of the discussion and still enjoy a cuppa from my home office. It was great to be able to share what we’re up to directly with Helen and it was clear how much enthusiasm and interest she has in this vital source of income for Blood Cancer UK.”

In addition to Blood Cancer UK participating in the Time for Tea event, the charity’s Director of Engagement, Matthew White, also attended the September 25 launch webinar for the Love Your Legacy Manager campaign.

Matthew said: “I loved the ‘The Love Your Legacy Manager’ webinar! I like to think at Blood Cancer UK we’re an organisation that hugely values the ultimate gift so many of our supporters choose to make… Our chair is a massive advocate of investing in legacy marketing and I often catch our CEO sipping tea from her Love Your Legacy Manager mug! But this webinar gave us even more energy and passion, it had invaluable marketplace insight all the way through to practical, implementable improvements we can make to our legacy marketing. Thank you all!”
