Battersea’s legacy team received a ‘pat on the back’ from the charity’s Chief Executive Peter Laurie when they got together to share ‘tails’ of success under the ILM’s Time for Tea banner.
Part of the wider Love Your Legacy Manager campaign, the idea is to encourage as many ILM members as possible to sit down for a cuppa with their senior team and highlight the great work legacy teams do in making a valuable contribution to charity finances.
Both the legacy marketing and legacy income teams at Battersea did exactly that, as Blerta Clubb, Battersea’s Head of Legacy Administration and an ILM Board member, explains: “We were all very grateful to be able to sit down with Peter and share some of our proudest moments in our legacy journey.
“All the legacy team members really valued the opportunity to talk about our success stories and highlight just what a difference legacies can make to a charity’s funding.”
Peter Laurie, Battersea Chief Executive commented: “I really enjoyed taking Time for Tea and hearing from the legacy team first-hand about all the great work they are doing, it was a truly worthwhile session.
“We owe a huge debt of gratitude to those who generously leave a legacy to Battersea in their Will, and the contribution that our legacy professionals make in turning these gifts into reality cannot be underestimated.
“The ILM’s Love Your Legacy Manager campaign is a great way to shine the spotlight on all charity legacy teams.”
Among the team’s talking points were:
- How they led on the highest legacy income case of over £3m for Battersea
- How engaged and dedicated Battersea supporters are
- The great results generated by a sector leading legacy TV advertisement in 2020 – it was the first time Battersea had created a brand-aligned “brand response” TV advert
- A team member’s success in managing over 1,000 legacy cases since 2016, which together have generated an income of +£50m
- How Battersea is built on legacies – the growth and development of the charity has only been possible because of legacy gifts
Samantha Jackson, Legacy Manager, concluded: “I feel very lucky at Battersea to have great support of legacies from the CEO and other senior leaders in the charity. The investment in legacies since I was first at Battersea in 2014 is testament to that. I feel very proud to work in legacies, and to be able to help manage such a special source of income that helps so many dogs and cats each year.”
